The art of Ceramics in Amalfi Coast

By 26 February 2018 62 Comments

The Ceramics on the Amalfi Coast boasts a centuries-old history that dates back to the fifteenth century. The greatest development of this art has already happened in the city of Vietri sul Mare, which, since the eighteenth century, became famous for its decorated ceramics.

An important role in the development of production was certainly carried out by the Abbey of the SS. Trinity of Cava dei Tirreni, which received as a donation the port of Vietri from the Duke Ruggiero and that, founded in 1020, will influence the production both in terms of both the styles of decoration.

The ceramics of Vietri are all handcrafted, which makes them unique pieces. Plates, vases, tiles for interior furnishings and outdoor furniture, the production is varied, full of ideas to meet the most varied needs.

The processing phases pass through careful and scrupulous steps strictly carried out with the aid of “ad hoc” tools for processing the raw product: shaping, drying, firing, enamelling, decoration, second firing.

All over the coastal territory there are shops that sell ceramic items to satisfy every taste and needs.
